COVERING MARY STEWART: fun fabrics, group three

The final group of my "fun fabrics" series of cover designs for Mary Stewart romantic suspense novels. This is a particularly diverse group in terms of place; beginning with the top image, the novels are set in Austria, Lebanon, the Canary Islands, and England's Malvern Hills. I enjoyed giving them color combinations not yet used in the series as well as some indirect and playful references to the stories themselves. The horse at the heart of Airs Above the Ground, a harem window grille for The Gabriel Hounds, the spiky plant life of The Wind Off the Small Isles and a cougar print for Touch Not the Cat gave me opportunities to tile together interesting motifs and patterns. As mentioned in my notes to this cover series, these covers aren't literally accurate—the big cat of the latter novel, for example, isn't a cougar but a tiger. They're meant to evoke the era as much as the precise plots, creating a fun and vivid cover series that distinguishes each book and yet works together as a whole.
